I am currently at a private four year in Texas, but am also taking three courses at a CCC to get my major prep done. I am planning to transfer to a UC by Fall next year. I will be full-time at the CCC next semester, but my question is will they see me as a CCC transfer?
You are attending an OOS CCC?
Since you are attending both a 4 year and a CCC concurrently, then you will still be seen as an OOS University transfer at time of application. California CCC transfers get priority as a UC transfer.
[quote]
The UCs define CA CCC students as students who have:
Completed at least 30 semester (45 quarter) UC-transferable units at one or more California community colleges;
and
A California community college as the last institution attended prior to transfer (excluding summer sessions).
@Gumbymom So I would have to complete 30 by the time the application is submitted? Or by the time I transfer? I won’t be attending the four-year next semester so the CCC would be the last institution attended prior to transfer.
Yes, you would have to complete at least 30 semester units at a CA CCC prior to transfer, but since you are concurrently attending a 4 year university this semester, that would override the CCC status. I would email UC admissions to confirm, but that is my interpretation.
Just for anyone who may have the same question in the future: the UC admissions center informed me that as long as you have at least 30 units at a CCC by the time you transfer, regardless if you have previously enrolled in a 4-year.
Good to know. Thanks for the update.
Word of warning about mixing 4-year and CCC credits: there are caps! Students who take 100% of their units at CCC can take an unlimited number of credits and still be able to transfer with junior standing. But if a student does cross-enrollment at a 4-year or starts out at a 4-year, they may end up making themselves ineligible for transfer. Different UC campuses have different cutoffs, so you may have to search the transfer unit cap for whichever campuses you’re most interested in attending.
I almost found that out the hard way when I tried to cross-enroll at Berkeley this year. Just something to keep in mind when doing research on transferring!
^^^ The xfer limits are more specific than just attending a 4-year. UC says
So as long as the OP has taken: 1) only lower-division classes at the 4-year 2) nothing at a UCthen there is no worry about having too many units to be eligible for xfer
You only need 30 CCC semester units by end of spring before transfer. Those 30 can be calculated this fall and spring.
