Hi, I'm an American high school junior looking to go to McGill next year! Unfortunately, on McGill's website it says that one of the requirements for admission for the Desautels Faculty of Management, among others, is to have at least a B+ in precalculus. I had a really bad sophomore year and my final average for precalc was a C. Does this mean that, without considering anything else, I'll be rejected? I fit all the other requirements, and if it helps I have an A in calc this year and it's definitely going to stay that way.

Also I was wondering how easy it is to internal transfer? My heart is set on McGill and if I don't get into Desautels, but if I get into another faculty (e.g. Faculty of Arts) is transferring after a year doable?

Hi,

unfortunately, precalculus is an admission requirement for you which means that if you do not meet this requirement, you will not be considered. Having A for calculus is great but since you’re coming from an american high school, you will have to do four years at McGill which means that you potentially have to retake calculus if you’re admitted (double check with them, you might be exempted or considered for equivalency). therefore, McGill has to look at your precalculus results still. end of the day, requirements are requirements and they have to be met to be considered for admissions.

transferring from the arts faculty to desautels is definitely possible but extremely hard. you will need an extremely good GPA just to be considered (something like 3.6 and up) and transfers are competitive because alot of people do that too. as long as you maintain a good GPA, a transfer is definitely possible.

are you a canadian citizen?
