I am a transfer student (business econ) and got a C in a major class and also had to drop another class (major class) for the winter quarter. I am a former foster youth so money is a huge issue for me and I ended up losing my housing situation for the quarter which is the reason for bad quarter. I am currently enrolled in the last two classes I need for transfer and am doing very well so I will still finish this quarter. Will I be rescinded for this? I hope not because my life has been so hard and getting in was a dream come true and it would kill me if I got rescinded.
Call them and tell them your situation. Losing your housing is definitely a valid reason for doing poorly and the fact that you didn’t give up on the quarter completely is great. Good luck.
Doesn’t sound like a rescind issue to me. But call like spencey said.
Here is an update to anyone in the future who has a situation like mine. Everything was ok and the school gave me this response:
We have reviewed the Academic Change Form you recently provided and determined that your admission offer stands. As Math 1B is a required course for your major, you must complete this course in spring 2015. Please be sure to meet the condition on your Provisional Admission Contract and to submit official transcripts of all college work by the stated deadlines. If your current course schedule changes or your final 2015 grades do not reflect the same high standards by which you were selected for admission, you must notify our office again immediately by submitting another academic change.
Congratulations! We look forward to your enrollment at UCLA.
Nice. How long did it take them to get back to you?
Did you take it in Spring 2015?
To lindyk8: It took exactly 14 business days. Longest 14 business days of my life.
To luckie1367: Yeah I did and did well so now everything is good to go!
For anyone currently in the same situation, don’t worry because the university wants to keep you there so they will work with you every time if possible. I think the only reason they’ll rescind you is if you cannot finish a required class in time for fall start.
Congrats @thadocta1988
I read that UCB rejected one transfer guy this year. Not all UCs will work with you.
Yeah, but why did they reject him? It was most likely because he couldn’t complete his required classes in time. I’ve heard many people getting D’s and they didn’t get rescinded but had to complete the class in the summer with a grade of B- or better. No need to make people worry for no reason. They just say in the admission contract that you have to “continue the same academic performance in which you were admitted” so students don’t start slacking off.
Berkeley rescinds on Cs all the time, and it depends on a lot of factors, mainly the provisional and the actual course. You had special circumstances. It might not always work out so favorably.
Post #9, he posted in the college admission forum, I’m unable to provide link since I’m on iPad. But his screen name is @Hamidz. I think only UCB does that. But other UCs rescind with a D and F.
I just read his post. Apparently his provisional contract said “no C’s.” I got into UCB also and mine didn’t have that provision so it really is case by case. Maybe he was on the border so they added that provision. Who knows. I’m just trying to give others some hope because I know when I was going through the waiting process I almost had a nervous breakdown hah.
You shouldn’t be giving people hope by acting like you’re on the Cal board. It’s ridiculous. Everything is case by case, EVERYTHING.
So @thadocta1998, which one are you choosing, UCLA or Berkeley?
Congrats on both!
Thanks lindyk8. I chose UCLA because I got a full scholarship to UCLA and UCB barely gave me anything. Also, I want to have a business in LA/socal when I graduate. And I’ve been in norcal my whole life (have never been to LA) so I wanted a change of scene.
To luckyname, Did you not read where I said everything is case by case?
