Hey guys, hopefully you can help me out. I sent in my deposit to JHU today, so I plan on attending in the fall.

However, my calculus grade has slipped.

My first semester grades were all A's and two B's (one in calc and one in AP Lit)

As of now, it looks like my final grade for calc will be a C+ and maybe even a C. The rest of my final grades (including three APs) will be A's. I am really bad at math, and this is NOT a case of senior slump.

I AM FREAKING OUT, to put it plainly haha. This is not a case of senior slump, I have been trying so hard because I am paranoid of this situation in general.

When I called Hopkins, they give me a very ambiguous answer. Essentially their response was "try not to get a C," instead of "this will happen if you get a C"

Is it possible that I will be rescinded. Am I worrying over nothing?

C’mon relax. what they want to see is that you are somebody who finishes strong and is a person who doesn’t let stuff go after major things are done. if majority of your classes are in A or B+ range then it shows that you didn’t just give up high school. C+ and C in one class and especially AP Calculus won’t get you rescinded.

Adria: Try to keep your grades up, but do not worry. It is very highly unlikely that your acceptance will be rescinded because you are having trouble in one area. Many seniors who have been accepted to colleges across the board get “senioritis” and let their grades slide. I have not heard of a single case of an acceptance being rescinded. You sound responsible, so do not worry.

I got two C this six week and i think i can pull off at least 80 for the semester by thrid six wk and final exam. I think you still have time to balance out numbers for final B

Idk how your school does things, but mine only gives the final grade at the end, ie if I have a 96 average first two semesters and get an 85 during the third, well I can work to average it out as best I can so the final grade they see is x or y. As it is, my grades are going up haha, and when you think about it, after AP’s it should be an easy A (unless your teacher is super intense… then that kinda sucks for you.)

If all else fails, have your counselor write something to your regional rep.

Hey. Do not worry about it unless you are going to get 2.0 or below (< 75).
Trust me! I wasted my last quarter of my senior year worrying about same issue. Take it from someone who had a precipitous drop from 104.5 weighted avg. (first semester) to low 80s (1st and 2nd marking pd for 2nd semester but I managed to bring it up to 97 for the semester).

If you are really worried, then you can do well on your upcoming AP tests and finals to compromise your current grades in Calc.

Hopkins will not rescind your admissions for a C in an AP Calculus class. If you have As in the rest of your classes, your GPA will probably come out (at worst) as a 3.5 for the semester. That is hardly grounds for rescinding admissions. As you will probably learn in college, Cs happen. Yeah, they shouldn’t be your regular grade, but they can happen even to the best students.
