Will I fit in at Skidmore?

Hi :) I'm new to the boards here! I've seen this question around a lot and I'm sure everyone is sick of seeing it ahaha but I am having a genuinely difficult time finding a college that I can see myself at. I've been researching like crazy and it's been so stressful. So I was wondering if I could get a little help :)

From what I've seen, I really like Skidmore. I'm from Connecticut so it's not too far. I actually hate the cold and was hoping to get out of the N.E. for college but my parents aren't too ecstatic about me being far away. You know how it is ahaha. Anyways, I've lived in CT my whole life so even though I don't like the cold, I'm used to it ;)

I'm a very friendly, easy-going person. I'm shy at first but once I get to know people, I open up a lot, and become my normal outgoing, sarcastic self.

I'm obviously looking for a college where I can learn a lot and be inspired. But I also really want a school that has a close-knit community, where people really care about each other and want to help each other on their journeys. I want to be in a friendly environment that will make it easier to adjust, you know? I do get homesick and I know it will be hard for me to be away from family, especially at first. A competitive, clique-y environment will not work for me.

So basically I just want to know - what is Skidmore like? And I know that sounds vague. But from people who go there or have visited, what are your feelings?

Oh, and also, I don't drink or smoke, and it's very important to me that I know I will not be pressured or will not be excluded for those reasons. I'm not ignorant - I know there is drinking and partying at every college. But some colleges are obviously known for partying more than others. I'm not saying I'm no fun or won't go to parties - I'm just saying I don't want to be at a school where the majority relies on alcohol or drugs for fun. I'm the type of person who would rather grab a cup of coffee and chat with friends or go to a concert or movie rather than get drunk and go to a party.

So I want your honest opinions - do you think Skidmore is a good match for me?

Any word of advice would be greatly appreciated :) Thanks in advance!

Find someone to stay with on campus.
That is the only way to get a feel for a place and see if it is right for you.
