Tulane is my top choice but I’m concerned about fitting in. I’m a very dedicated student in the honors program, and I want to go to college to learn and meet other intelligent people. I’m all for having fun and relaxing rather than studying all the time, but my version of fun does not equate to partying and drinking. I’m pretty liberal and looking for an open and accepting student body. Will I fit in?
The Tulane student body tilts liberal, as does the city of New Orleans. There is a tremendous emphasis on community service. With most students coming from the top 10% of their high school classes and with high stats, this is a pretty driven bunch. You should have no trouble finding your crowd.
I know a young woman who is a freshman. She is not a party girl at all and is a dedicated student. I hear she loves Tulane. You will find your crowd. Also, some dorms are more into partying than others (from what I hear).
Yes, you should try to live in Wall (Freshman Honors Dorm) and then Weatherhead/SoHo (Sophomore Honors Dorm), as those environments are exactly what you have described. If partying and drinking is not your thing, then stay away from Sharp, Monroe, and Butler.
There are definitely a lot of students like you at Tulane, they just are more commonly found in Wall rather than Sharp/Monroe (which makes sense; just like any other school).
