For Cal States, you need to meet the a-g course requirements with a passing grade of C which means the D grades cannot be used to meet the a-g course requirements.
You need 4 years of English, and math through algebra 2 or higher. The semesters with D grades do not count for the purpose of fulfilling the high school course requirements.
For English, you need to retake the semester(s) with the D grade(s) or take alternative English courses meeting the requirement (see http://doorways.ucop.edu and look up the a-g courses in your high school).
For math, you need to either retake the semester(s) with the D grade(s) or complete trigonometry or precalculus to fulfill the math requirement. See http://www.calstate.edu/sas/publications/documents/csu-uc-a-gcomparisonmatrix.pdf (second page regarding validation).
There are alternative ways of fulfilling the a-g requirements with standardized test scores or college courses as listed here: http://www.calstate.edu/sas/publications/documents/AdmissionHandbook.pdf
CSU’s do not offer early decision, so applying early will not help especially if you do not meet the course requirements. Your application can be submitted any time between Oct 1 through Nov 30, but will not be reviewed unless all requirements are met.
Also problems at home including divorce were an actual factor. I know I was capable of more and its no excuse but it was a legit burden. Thank you though
I am sorry about your problems at home. Here are alternate ways to fulfill your Math and English requirements and if you cannot meet the a-g course requirements, going to a community college for 2 years and transferring into a CSU as also an excellent option.
The English Requirement may be satisfied by:
Completing approved courses from the “a-g” list; - OR -
Earning a 3, 4 or 5 on the Advanced Placement English Language and Composition or English Literature and Composition examinations; - OR -
Earning a 680 or better on the SAT Subject Writing Test taken on May 1998 or after; - OR -
Earning a 680 – or higher on the writing portion of SAT; - OR -
Completing a baccalaureate level course with a C or better that meets the CSU General Education Breadth requirement in written communication in English or the IGETC English composition requirement
The Mathematics Requirement may be satisfied by:
Completing approved courses from the “a-g” list; - OR -
Earning a 3, 4 or 5 on the Advanced Placement examination in mathematics (Calculus AB or Calculus BC); - OR -
Earning a 540 or better score on the SAT Subject Mathematics test, Level I; - OR -
Earning a 510 or better score on the SAT Subject Mathematics tests Level II; - OR -
Completing a baccalaureate course with a C or better that meets the CSU General Education-Breadth or IGETC requirement in mathematical concepts and quantitative reasoning or appears on a (community college) “a-g” list. To meet this requirement, the course must be above the level of intermediate algebra and have intermediate algebra as a stated, explicit prerequisite.
Good Luck.
Thank you that is a huge help.
