Please Help! I have a D, what are my chances...

Hello,
So I have all A's and B's in my classes, with a C average for first semester of Algebra II and a D average for second semester of Algebra II.

(I should note that I have reasonably high SAT scores, and several extracurricular activities).

Are there any California state schools -- UC or CSU -- that will accept me? Please, respond! It would be great if someone could offer firsthand knowledge, (not by the schools' websites, necessarily).

Thanks for your time!

Are you a California High School senior? If so, then the minimum requirements to be admitted to a CSU/UC is to have a “C” or better in the a-g courses, which are an outline of courses specifically detailed here:
[A-G courses | UC Admissions](http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/freshman/requirements/a-g-requirements/)

[CSUMentor - Plan for College - High School Students - High School Subject Requirements](<a href=“Cal State Apply | CSU”>Freshman: Admission Requirements | CSU)

If your D is in any of those courses for which you are attempting to apply as an a-g course, then you should retake it your senior year, retake an equivalent transferrable course at a CC (high school seniors often do this while finishing their senior year), or earn applicable scores on SAT subject or AP tests.

If the D is not an a-g course, then the only thing it is hurting is your GPA, for which there is also a minimum requirement for UC/CSU admission (sometimes based on intended major if the campus is impacted: too many qualified applicants than there are spot in the school for).

I received a D in my second semester of foreign language in HS and never made it up. I could not apply to UC/CSUs, and instead I am going to CC to transfer (still without taking a foreign language!). Comprende?

CSU calls out Algebra 2 as a requirement. “Math (3 years required, 4 recommended) including Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, or higher mathematics (take one each year)****”

If you get less than a C in a required class, it doesn’t fulfill the requirement.

So, take it again and pass.

You need to do one of these things to fulfill the math part of the a-g requirements:

 • Repeat second semester of algebra 2 with a C or higher grade.
 • Complete trigonometry, precalculus, or statistics with a C or higher grade.
 • Score 540 (CSU) or 570 (UC) on SAT subject test in Math Level 1.
 • Score 510 (CSU) or 480 (UC) on SAT subject test in Math Level 2.
 • Score 3 on AP calculus AB or BC test.
 • Complete an accepted college math course.
