Will I get financial aid from the UC's?

I came to California from India when I was two, my parents were on a worker’s visa. Since then our greencard was declined but since then we’ve been pending asylum. I can’t tell if I’m going to get financial aid or not, I’ve lived in California legally for my entire life and it would be so infuriating to know that I can’t afford college after 16 years of working hard to get into a UC.

You probably need to read everything at http://ucop.edu/residency/index.html very carefully to see what applies to your situation.

Since the age of two, which means you were born in India.
How have you lived here legally? As a non-green card holder? As a pending asylum case? (I thought asylum cases were those who feared returning to their home countries for fear of imprisonment or retribution.)
You indicate in a previous post that your parents have a green card.

Do they or don’t they have a green card?

Have your parents been paying California taxes?
I think you will not be charged OOS tuition, but you won’t qualify for federal funding if you are not a US citizen or permanent resident at the time of your application. You may not qualify for California State funding.

That’s not on the UC system or the state of California, that’s on your parent’s status and funding. A lot of kids who ARE citizens can’t afford the UCs either. You can’t expect the State or the federal government to fund your education. That’s usually on the family dime for everyone, citizen and non-citizen alike.

Living in the US since the age of 2 does not grant you automatic citizenship, and you may not be eligible, at this time, to access FAFSA. You indicated that you, as well as your parents, are citizens of India.

State funding may also not be available to you, but you may be eligible for instate tuition.

And, FYI, your peers are also working hard to get into the UC’s; it’s not easy for anyone. You don’t have to go to a UC, you may have better financial luck at the privates.

Sounds like you would qualify for instate rates because you went to a Calif high school, however, you wouldn’t qualify for aid.

You don’t qualify for Cal Grants or for Blue and Gold Promise.

How much will your parents pay each year for college?

According to that link, because we applied for asylum over 366 days ago I qualify as a resident, but does that mean I’bb be able to get financial aid?

It depends if you really are a green card holder? What kind of visa did/do they hold?
You need to find out your status from your parents. It doesn’t sound like you know.

I was told we had a green card for a long time but I was recently told we’ve been pending for a green card for 9 years and now we’ve been pending asylum for another 7 years. I don’t understand why we’ve been pending for so long. Yes we’ve been paying taxes.

Green card status takes years.

If you applied this year for admission and aren’t a green card holder, then you are considered international and a non-citizen. You’ll get instate tuition which is a lot cheaper than OOS, but you won’t be eligible for neither federal nor state aid.
