Hi, I recently applied to Rice on Interim Decision. Here are my stats:

4.6 wgpa... asian male
I'm ranked 1 in my class
SAT I - 760 V, 800 M
SAT II Writing - 800
SAT II MATH 2C - 800
SAT II Chem - 780
Also got a 226 on PSAT, so I'm a National Merit Semifinalist
I'm currently taking 5 AP classes
I've already taken 6 AP tests, which I have received 5's on (chemistry, us history, stats, english language, calc ab, calc bc)
I have never gotten lower than a A- in high school courses (I'm taking most challenging courses)

I had a Rice interview..

My extracurriculars include Piano (won 1st prize at a local concerto competition..I performed with an orchestra last November, 2nd prize at US open, Advanced Level for my state, and finalists in other competitions) Math Team (i took AIME), California Scholarship Federation Vice-President.. I'm also a peer counselor at my school..

I am pretty anxious about this because I really want to go to Rice...

well you have good stats and all, but are piano/math/CSF your only extracurriculars that you got honors/awards for? There doesn't seem to be many leadership positions besides CSF.

Honestly, don't be such a drama queen. Your stats clearly make you a shoe-in at Rice. Remember, they give scholarships to Semi-Finalists. They want you. ;)

hmm The thing is you may be the victim of the acceptance game. This is where Rice (and other highly selective schools) reject people that they think is either over qualified or could possible be accepted to a rival school (who has a better rank). They do this so they can keep their selectivity rank high and keep their coveted spot on the ladder or go up even.

Gimpage: Rice is one school that does not manipulate stats for rating purposes. To the contrary, the non-binding ID program is designed to introduce Rice to exceptional candidates who might also being applying to HYP, Stanford and Duke.
