Will I get in?

Hello all!
My question is pertaining obviously to transferring to a UC. However I wish to transfer after 1 year instead of 2. In high school, I took many AP classes and I passed many of my tests. I passed Stats, US gov & politics, Psychology, European History, and US History. Also, I took a class over the summer (Cultural Anthropology which I got an A in). As an incoming freshman at a ccc, I will have like 21-24 credits (I don't know which one for sure). I have talked to a counselor and I have my schedule set up to get me the 60 credits by the end of this year. However, my question is about my application. Since I technically won't have any classes completed, what will my GPA be based off? Will I have less of a shot because I won't have as much "experience" as others? I am taking band, which I started in high school, will this help me get in? I am also doing the Honors Program at my college. What should I be doing to improve my chances because I want to transfer after 1 year? Any advice is much appreciated, I really want to transfer to UCLA but any UC would be fine by me.
Thanks

For transfer admission you are required to submit an update in January to report your Fall/Winter grades. Your GPA will be based on those grades.

If you can get TAP certification (complete the Honors program), then it will be tremendously helpful for UCLA (additional consideration for majors in College of Letters & Science).

So UCs won’t even look at your application until after you complete the first semester?

You’ll be at a disadvantage, as you’ll only have your summer and fall grades to prove you are a good student. You are off to a good start with your one A, if you get a 4.0 fall you might have a chance at some UCs. If UCI is acceptable for you, that school might be your best bet. They don’t even require you to have 60 units to transfer.

Oh really? That is a bummer. I heard from my teacher the other day that UCI accepts you if you complete the honors program at my school with a GPA of 3.75 or higher. I would love to go there, but my top choice would be to go to UCLA. It took a couple hours, but I do have my entire schedule planned out to do the Honors program at my school, get my AA, finish IGETC, and meet my major pre-reqs. So when I apply, I should have all those done, I guess because I will only be outside of high school does put me in a disadvantage regardless.

What is your major?

Psychology.

a girl did this in one of my classes last year. she had roughly the same number of units as you and had the same dilema. she was having trouble verifying which of her ap courses would count as units towards her igetc. so make sure you know what will be transferable. also, she had to take like 20+ units a semester which was quite a workload. additionally, sunce you already are at somewhat of a disadvantage you have to maintain a super high gpa, 3.8+ range. if you can do this you have a shot. the girl ended up transfering to ucsb with a 4.0 in one year.

my advice would to be in constant contact with your conselour to plan things so that you are constantly on track.

also, as you can tell its getting increasingly harder to get the classes you want at a ccc due to the budget constraints and number of courses offered.

it will take lots of hard work and dedication. oh, and i bit of luck as well :)

i hope this helps you in your journey. good luck dont get too stressed… haha

UCs review transfer applications in February and March, after the Fall/Winter grades are updated. That is why the admission decisions don’t come out until April (for most campuses).
