I applied to UW as a freshman English Language and Literature major. This is supposed to be a more competitive department, and I'm getting really nervous as I REALLY want to go to school at UW next year! I scored 1820 on my SAT and 27 on ACT. I have about a 3.6 GPA; no APs, but a lot of college courses at my local community college. I was Junior Vice President at my high school, student senate for two years, College Connection, College Connection senate, two years volunteer experience at a local hospital, Link Crew, Key Club, Interact Club, and a few other things.
Do I have a shot at being accepted? Thanks! :)

you’ll probably get in but you know how UW can be.

you can still DEFINITELY go to UW if that’s what you really really want, even if you don’t get in at first, by going to community college and getting a 4.0 which is easy as hell. then you will most definitely get in even though i know that is not the route you want to go. it is super duper easy though and will prob save you or your parents a lot of money. again i know it’s not what you want but: anyone who really really wants to go to UW can by this method.

and i’m not saying this bc i think you have a lousy chance of getting in. your stats sound good to me. i just don’t know much about what they’re looking for in a hs student, that’s all. i’d say you have at least a 50/50 chance but what do i know.

I already have over a year completed from taking classes at a community college, But I really want to go straight to a four-year.
Thanks for your opinion!! I’m just getting really nervous now that decisions are approaching!

Oh, by the way, I’m out of state, if that makes a difference!!

UW has a high acceptance rate so probably.

I don’t consider 56.8% a high acceptance rate.

TravelGirl, do you think I have a chance at being accepted, despite it being more selective?

I think you have a pretty decent chance. It’ll probably come down to your essays

I had really strong essays, so I’m pretty confident in those!!
