3.7 Michigan GPA

currently 1340 out of 1600/2000 out of 2400....but, i can not explain how nervous i was, i had an all out panic attack......when i take it in june i should get around a 2100/2150 overall

1 AP sophmore year (Euro)
3 APs Junior year (Composition, Physics, US)
4 APs Senior year (Lit, Government, Environmental, AB calc)

all other classes have been honors

i also come from a highly highly competitive out of state public school where many people apply to michigan (15ish usually go to michigan)

extra cirriculars...
founded a club freshmen year and have been president since (Political Science Club)...it is now a steady club with a solid membership and is also the umbrella club of two others...i also have done 100+ hours of community service in the political field and have interned on local political campaigns

i'm a grade officer

member of national honor society, latin honor society, was in french honor society (before i dropped and switched to latin), stock market club, one varsity sport (played other JV earlier in high school)

i also placed 8th in the country (tied with 10000 other kids probably lol) on the national french exam in 9th grade

received 1st place gold medal in national latin exam this year, summa cum laude

I'd say you're a strong applicant, even with the SAT score you currently have

Good to hear

it's just hard to truly judge coming from a school where the applicants tend to be higher than average

You are a very solid match for Michigan. If you break the 2100 on your second SAT in June, I'd say Michigan will be a very safe match for you, assuming you apply early in the fall and maintain that 3.7 unweighed GPA.

Wow that's great to hear

worst case scenario right now i end up with a 3.6 GPA, but that's not likely....and i plan on applying as early as possible

Keep that GPA as high as you can. The higher the better.

You seem EXACTLY like me...

i had 3.7
1330/1600
2000/2400
I got in.

Most likely in. Don't assume you'll get in though and apply late. I know instate students with 3.9's that get rejected.

jake what kind of high school did you go to?

and i plan on having my app out by the end of august...when is it usually posted?

woah...dsb...you dont have to put out your app that fast...if your app is in by early oct its considered very early...

yea. Sending it in august only helps for borderline candidates like me. Your stats are strong so it doesn't really matter when you apply as long as its not extremely late. Get it in by september.

The earlier the better. And I do not consider October early. September is early, October is usually the start of the rush, which means that the answer can take longer.

Yeah...the stats don't matter too much, but that extra stuff is going to help you get in. I only had a 3.65 unweighted GPA, 1270 SAT, just sports for extracurricular activities, applied at the end of november and I still had no problem getting in since I had lots of crap for math and almost every AP class our school offered.

And by 1270, I mean 1370

i know everyone says the earlier the better but if u do happen to apply later it doesn't mean automatic decline. I applied on the deadline (i know very bad.. but long story) and i still was accepted. but i'm sure applying early cannot hurt, i wish i applied earlier so i would have had more time to visit and make a decision, etc. so i guess APPLY ASAP, but it won't kill you if you apply later.

dsb123, how do u know ur michigan GPA, rather, how does michigan calculate GPA? ive ben trying to figure out my michigan GPA too, where is the formula or whatever?

correct me if i'm wrong on this...

A+, A or A- as a final grade for a class averages as 4.0

B+, B, B-=3.0

C+, C, C-=2.0

D+, D, D-=Why are you even considering Michigan?

question
they don't weigh your GPA at all for AP class, honors, etc....is your course load still a big factor though?

i went a pretty competitive high school. We were in that top 100 ranking, although that may actually mean nothing. My class was especially competitive, meaning a 3.7 put me at about the 20%tile.

ok...my schools kind of similar...except it has been in the top 5 the past few years and was top 15ish this year...and just to give you an idea...almost half of my grade (of 250) is in national honor society, which has a 3.6 out of 4.0 gpa minimum

If I want to get my app in as early as august, does that mean I should arrange for my counselor and teacher to send in everything by the end of this school yr?
