Hello. I am applying to the following colleges: Caltech, Stanford, Harvey Mudd, Berkeley, cornell, carnegie mellon, and Georgia Tech. I am going into mechanical/electrical engineering. I am not sure how high of a chance I have of getting into these schools. I was hoping to hear your opinions based on this information:
AP/college courses taken/will take: Chemistry, Calculus BC, English language and composition, English literature, Physics, Economics, Statistics, and possibly differential equations.
SAT I: math:750 Writing: 710 Reading comp: 640 (I moved here in 7th grade so I am hoping that colleges will go a little easy on the reading part. Though I am taking the SAT I again in october; going for at least 2200)
SAT II: math IIC: 800 Chemistry:780 Spanish:taking later
extracurricular activities: UCLA high school research internship, Los Angeles math circle, executive board of school's honor society, guitar, swimming, water polo, ACE (architecture, construction, engineering) program, applied mathematics club, spanish studies club, find the ultimate cure club, key club, adopt=an-apt club, and YMCA swim club.
Volunteer service: 4 years at UBH and 2 years as a tutor on campus
jobs: 2 years as a doctor's assistant and 1 year of tutoring (outside of school)
My unweighted gpa is 3.98 (I got one B in english freshman year )
So what do you guys think?

why did you repost this thread in the same forum? lol

In all honesty there are kids from all over the world who never set foot in an English speaking country who send colleges near perfect CR and writing scores. I think 7th grade will be seen as ample time to gain the knowledge to produce competitive scores. For many, many kids at schools like Caltech, English is not their first language, yet they have one of the highest CR averages in the Country (as do most of the schools on your list).

well then i guess I will just get an 800 on cr next time. it won’t be a problem. :)

That’s the best idea I’ve heard on these boards today!

I got accepted into Carnegie Mellon (Carnegie Institute of Technology and Mellon College of Science) but waitlisted at Caltech. Rejected at Stanford, but that was expected.

I think you have a very good shot at CMU, Berkeley, Cornell, and Georgia Tech. Caltech and Stanford are crap shoots, however. With an excellent app like yours, usually it’s just luck at those schools.

If you haven’t already, be an officer (president, vp, treasurer, etc.) in some of your ECs. It would boost your app.

I wish you the best of luck.

thanks a lot for your optimism! :)
