Will I get into any good colleges?

Basically, my grades were not the best freshman year. I have severe anxiety and depression and for a couple months of freshman year I wasn’t even attending school. This is why my grades are so low. I am a straight A student, as shown by the first semester of 10th grade when I switched schools and entered a program for students with mental health disorders like me. Things got a bit bad again the second semester which is why I have some Bs, and they are really much worse this year. I want to write about it in my essay so that they understand why my grades were not great, but I’m still not confident I’ll get into a good college. I never imagined myself getting below a B in high school and here I am…

@uniqueness201 So you struggled a little in 9th grade. For some kids that means C’s and D’s and even an F or two. That is not the case here. Those are the grades you earned while struggling with a pretty severe mental illness? You should be PROUD of those grades! Overall you will have a solid GPA. Will you get into ivy league and top tier schools? Probably not. But you know what? Who cares. Even kids with perfect grades and test scores don’t get in.

Will you get into a GOOD college? Yes, you absolutely will. Look for schools with good retention rates (above 80%) and solid graduation rates, and read the book Colleges That Change Lives to get some ideas.

You are going to do just fine!!! There are tons of colleges out there (really good ones) that would love a student like you.

Unfortunately many on this forum define a “good college” as HYPS although some are so liberal as to broaden the term to include all Ivy colleges

You want a college that is good for you, not one that other people qualify as “good”. Your grades are fine for most colleges and universities in the country. So stop fretting about admission in general, and focus on options where you will have the mental health support you need.

I think you will be just fine! Considering the circumstances, you did great, and colleges will understand that.
