Here is my situation I have a 2.3 left over from a rather poor preformence,
throughout Freshman year but I've preformed decent in my studies since and it shows a strong upward trend, in addition I will have three AP classes under my belt. In terms of EC'S I will have to put on my application the Cambridge College Programme, in which I did exceedingly well as I made all A's in my classes as well as getting the de facto recommendations of two Cambridge Professors who are fairly high profile in the sense of them being accomplished academics as well as to having wrote some books as well, also in terms of EC I will hopefully have debate to put on there in addition to Cambridge. Also I have written and have had published some History articles on community based history websites. Not to mention I also finished an internship with one of the Presidential Campaigns in addition to doing around 24 hours of volunteer work with one of the related political parties organization.

However I still do worry due to the fact that I've had a lackluster Senior year due to a death in my family which has districted me from my studies, however I still pray I can get in.

Also in my interview with the college I did very well and the interview is a big part of the admissions process.

So how do things appear for me in terms of getting into Gettysburg.

Keep into mind this is not the only place I'm applying to, only my top choice

If your overall GPA is over a 3.5 don't sweat it. Good recs, an interesting resume, good interview will all come together. Gettysburg is very holistic in it's approach to admissions. Also I would call your admissions counselor and see if he/she recommends you write a letter to be placed in your file detailing the problems you had senior year.

My D is at Gettysburg and she had some marginal grades on her transcript. They definitely look at the whole student.

I agree absolutely with librarymom123. I like to stress the importance of explaining the family problems that caused your grade decline. Writing a letter would a good way although I'd prefer filling the "Additional Information" section of the commonapp. But since you can't do that now, stick to the letter - don't email.

Isn't it too late for that? Kevin applied ED as far as I know. He should receive his decision very soon, if he has not received it yet. I called Gettysburg admissions and they told me that they have not made the decision on my candidacy yet, but they expect to make it next week. But that is because I converted my application from regular to early decision just before Feb 1st.

librarymom123, to answer you comments about getting in, I have a very low GPA and class rank as you can see however I had the other three aspects you mentioned I got at least 6 very good recomendations both from my high school and Cambridge as well as a strong essay and an excellent interview with the college.

I'm thinking the reason they deferred me was the gpa but how I feel about my chances now since they are going to consider me in regular decison?

Is your GPA low all three and a half years? That's the big question. If you had poor grades as a freshman and did well 10th and 11th grades, you should be fine. Especially if your senior grades have some extenuating circumstances attached. (Write that letter!)

If, however, all four years have produced grades that are marginal, I don't know. Those grades can't necessarily be explained away. Gettysburg's applications did drop off this year so that might help you too.

It's hard to say once you are in the RD pool--I'm guessing that with the drop in apps their acceptance rate will be about 40% this year. Since they didn't reject you outright, they may be looking for something else from you to justify admission. What can you tell them to help put youself in a good light?

My grades were decent beyond freshman year but math kept my GPA down, so in terms of writing a letter should I call thm first and ask if they want to see one from me or something else in addtion to that?

There's no harm in calling admissions, but be brief. Tell them you were deffered and you want to know if there is anything you can do to bolster your application.
