Will I get into Michigan State University or is it a Reach?

I have always wanted to go to Michigan State University, but I am worried I might not get in. Here are my credentials:

I have a 3.22 GPA, and a 23 ACT (retake score pending). I have recommendations from teachers, a University of Michigan-Dearborn professor, and a few people in the Michigan House of Representatives. I have 100 volunteer hours. I am Captain of the Varsity Wrestling Team and on the JV Cross Country Team. I had an internship in the House of Representatives and an internship with the University of Michigan professor. I was on Student Council and received a Leadership Award, a Science Fair Honorable Mention, a Varsity Letter Award, and I am on the Honor Roll. I also have taken several honors courses and a very challenging college prep curriculm. I am also a michigan resident.

I'm going to say pretty much the same thing I said in the other MSU thread- I think you have a good chance. Get your ACT score up, make sure you present your ECs and such well, apply in September, and I think you have a good shot.

Best of luck!

The thing I am worried about is the ACT. Do you think I ll still have a good shot if I don't get it up. Not that I am not going to try my hardest. Just strictly a what if scenerio.

It's going to be harder for you. You're going to be in the bottom 25% of their accepted student range, which makes it all the more important that you apply early and have an outstanding application. However, I think you'd still stand a good chance if you did those things.

if you get your ACT up higher you will be in good shape with a good essay

MSU is not a hard school to get into but you need a little higher ACT score.

I'd second the idea to apply early. Your EC's are excellent, so that would definitely improve your chances. If your ACT score does not improve, you would have a slimmer chance of getting in but it's definitely not unheard of. If your next ACT retake does not improve (to say at least a 25+), I would strongly suggest to try the SAT in the fall. Also, make sure to not slack off your 1st semester senior year as they will likely take it into account as a borderline candidate for admission; if you do very well, then that may result into an acceptance. Good luck!
