Hi! I’m currently a Junior in high school and hope to get into Northeastern University. Here are my stats. Do you think I have some chance of getting in? If not, is there anything I can do to up my chances? Thank you for any advice.
GPA: 3.8/3.9 unweighted
ACT: 30
Major: Interactive Design, Computer graphics, Graphic design, Game design, etc etc
AP Courses: 4 (Comp Sci Principles, US History, World History, Lang, and I think I’m taking 3-4 more senior year)
(I also took mostly honors classes for other core subjects)
Ethnicity: Asian
Extracurriculars:
two volunteering Presidential awards (100+ hours)
play traditional Korean drums
JV cheer (freshman and sophomore year) and JV captain
Varsity cheer (junior and planning on doing it again senior year)
Y2Y club since freshman year (drug and alcohol abuse awareness club)
as an applicant this year, take a few more APs your senior year like you said (Go for the harder ones like APUSH and ap statistics if you can handle it and your school has it). Also get your ACT up- i didn’t take the act but a google search tells me a 30 is in the 1330-1350 SAT range, and their SAT average is in the 1400s. Besides that it’s the only thing i really see holding you back, so good luck!
Someone I know with only slightly higher stats did get in, but at full pay. It wasn’t worth the cost (and where she went instead at lower cost has a better program in what she ended up majoring in).
I think that as @Liloesq says, if you get up your ACT a bit then your chances of being accepted are pretty good. ACT preparation does help. Whether it is going to be worth the cost will depend upon what sort of aid you are offered, what alternatives you have, and your personal financial situation. Definitely research and apply to safeties as well.
