Will I get into UT Austin?

I am a sophomore Westwood High School which is a highly competitive school and I am in the top 7% of my class but not in the top 6% which is the new rule with a 5.66GPA. I have about 150hours of community service and participate in clubs such as HOSA and SKILLS USA . I qualified for HOSA nationals as a freshman. Just jot my PSAT10 scores and I got a 1350. Looking to go into the medical field and possibly apply to the College of Natural Sciences at UT. What are my chances of getting in and possibly getting scholarships?

Westwood has a great reputation in the eyes of UT Austin. You still have time to break into the top 6%, but if you end up being just outside of it, focus on your test scores. You seem to have great ECs and community service. As for the scholarship question, UT usually doesn’t give out that many scholarships but I do believe that the College of Natural Sciences gives out some freshman scholarships. Best of luck in your remaining years of high school!

Thank you! Do you have any advice on what else I should do to improve my chances such as taking specific classes etc…Also, is it bad to take ACC courses?

Take a challenging, but also reasonable course load. Admissions looks to see if you’ve challenged yourself throughout high school, but certainly don’t make it so challenging that it ultimately hurts you. If you’re interested in honors (Health Science Scholars could be something to look into since you’re doing pre-med), they’ll ask for your AP scores on the application. I personally don’t have any experience with ACC courses
