Hello CC. I'm currently a senior who would be an in-state applicant to UVa. My hook is that I moved to Virginia from out of state between sophomore and junior year. I'm not in a military family or one that relocates often, so the move was a sudden and difficult experience. Despite this, I pulled through fairly well. I also wrote my essay on moving, which has gotten a lot of positive feedback so far.

Here are my stats:
Weighted GPA: 4.04
Unweighted GPA: 3.98
ACT: 32
US History SAT II: 790
Literature SAT II: 710
AP World History: 5 (self-studied)
APUSH: 5
AP English Language: 5
Class Rank: 27 out of 289 at the end of junior year, but changed to 31 out of 285 over the summer (waiting to hear back from my guidance counselor on this). This either puts me in the top 10% or right outside of it.

ECs:
Play string bass with the school orchestra all four years of high school, section leader for 11th and 12th grade
Played guitar for school jazz band for 9th and 10th grade
Officer in English and History Honor Societies (possibly in Music Honor Society as well)
National Honor Society Member
Student 2 Student Member (club that helps transfer students adjust, which I hope will reflect on me positively as a transfer student)
Possible Editor of Literary Magazine
Volunteer at local library here and with local little league back from where I moved from

For classes, I took all Pre-IB classes in an IB school and got one B (Pre-IB Alg. 2/Trig). I only took two AP classes my junior year because I was worried I'd overwhelm myself being in a new school with new types of classes. After getting straight A's junior year, I decided I would take four AP classes senior year to show that I am capable of challenging myself and was just being cautious after the move. I hope that this recovers for any possible "dip" in the rigor of my course load.

I am applying early, but I have a number of concerns related to changing high schools. The high school I am in now is a competitive public school that ranks within the top 25 in the state. However, they only weight AP classes when calculating GPA, making me less competitive than my peers who were able to take APs their sophomore year. Will this be taken into account when UVa looks at my GPA and class rank? I could only do so much with what I was given, but feel I made the most of it. Any and all input is welcome and thank you in advance for helping me out.
