Will I get my money back?

Okay so to start off I was waitlisted from UC Davis and accepted to UC Merced. So obviously I SIR’d to UCM however, in order to get a guaranteed housing spot I have to submit the housing packet by May 2 and pay a fee of $300. So if I submit the housing registration by May 2 and get accepted to UC Davis from the waitlist and decide to go there instead will I get my money back?

Probably not - but read the fine print yourself.

Usually not, but that is the chance you take if you accept the waitlist. Check the conditions but many times prior to a certain they deadline the school may refund you some or all of the deposit.

Okay thanks for the information.

@DartRadec09
Most likely not, it sounds like you will be stripped of your if you go to Davis because you won’t get the money back AND you will have to pay fees that UCD will make you pay. That is if you are fortuitous enough to be admitted by the waitlist because I have heard of the rates being low.

PS
Is it YOUR money? Or your parents’ money?
If its your parents money you might need to consider the cost for them unless they are willing to almost spend $1k from both schools which may be a heavy toll.

I’ve done some research on this case and I read that I will only get half of the money back. However, regardless if I get accepted or not I’m going to try to get a job over the summer so that if in case I do get accepted I can pay it back.

@DarthRadec09 That’s great at least you don’t have to worry about all the money since half is compensated back. Then you’re pretty committed to attend UC Davis if they accept you through the waitlist?

I kind of want to say both if I get into UC Davis then yes, but if not then I will still be grateful for UC Merced.
