Will I get rescinded from UCI

Hello,

Recently, I have TAG’d to UCI for transfer in Fall 2021 as an electrical engineering major. I have met all the requirements for TAG as well as general admission for UCI, besides one major-prep course that I am scheduled to take in Spring 2020. Unfortunately, there hasn’t been a replacement professor found to teach the course (last year the professor quit teaching at my CC who usually teaches this course) and I am unsure whether or not they will be able to find a replacement by the beginning of January. The course is still listed on my CC’s website, so I am currently enrolled in the class AND I have the class status on my UC application as “planned” despite there not being a professor yet. I will not know whether or not the class is cancelled until after I submit the academic in early January.

My question is, once I am accepted into UCI via TAG (since they will be under the notion that I am taking this course during the spring), will the school rescind my offer by the end of the academic year if my required class ends up being cancelled?

Thank you.

This is a really unique situation and you should probably contact your admissions representative and explain your situation to them and get their input. I think that if the major prep class is one of the requirements for the TAG (as listed on the UCI website), they can rescind the TAG because technically you wouldn’t have completed your TAG.

But, you might still get in as a non-TAG applicant.

Does your CC have a sister college? Check to see if the course you need is being offered there.

i agree - contact UCI and see what they suggest.

good luck

If a course is not offered they don’t hold that against you - BUT - they will expect you to try and find a replacement course nearby. So you better check the nearby CCCs and enroll as backup. If it is not offered nearby it’s unlikely they will penalize you. And keep in mind if you are excluded from TAG, you do roll over to regular admission.

I believe you can drop the class, just make sure you update your TAU so it shows you’re not taking the class anymore. Also see a counselor to make sure.

why not email UCI admissions so you have their answer in writing?

Stupidly, I signed up for a class that is not a requirement for my major (Electrical Engineering) by any of the 4 schools I applied to (UCI, UCSC, UCSB, and UCSD). During the cold seasons, my work doesn’t require my attendance as often as it would in the spring/summer. I value picking up another job more than taking this class that isn’t even required, as transferring to a university is quite the expense. Could I potentially have my offers rescinded after dropping this class, especially regarding my TAG to UCI.

If it’s not required and you have your 60 units, plus any other TAG req completed, it will not affect the TAG. They can’t drop you from TAG for taking a course you didn’t need. Re the other UCs, people often drop courses if they have work, etc. Be sure to update TAU and mention work in the comments. The one potential issue with the course and EE is if it’s a recommended course or one that makes you more competitive at Berkeley or UCLA, since those two campuses expect above and beyond.
