I am currently at a California community college planning to transfer to a UC in a year or two. One course I need for my degree is Pre-Calc. In order to get into pre-calc I had to take its prerequisite, Intermediate Algebra. I took the Intermediate Algebra at a different California Community College online. My current community college, and the one I am staying at required registration for pre-calc before i was done with intermediate algebra at the other college, BUT my home college, decided I could take pre-calc because I had an A in the course and couldnt fail. So i got into my pre-calc course. So here is where i come across an issue. I ended up with a B in the intermediate algebra at the other college, my first B. Since I am now in pre-calc and dont need intermediate algebra itself to meet any requirements, can I just not transfer the grade for it over to my home college and keep my 4.0? When i go to transfer to a UC, will it show back up?

Yes. You need to disclose all your grades from every CC that you ever attended. They have a National Clearinghouse they go through where the UC’s can easily tell if you’ve withheld any information from them. If you get past them this time, and they find out you withheld that grade, you’ll get your degree revoked and everything. Do not risk it. It’s just a B, which won’t hurt you much since you’re planning on transferring in another year or two.

If it transfers then you need to report it.

Hey @calbro, why did you mention that? I’m pretty sure even if it’s non-transferable, you still need to report it. If not, I’d love to know because I have a couple CSU transferable only courses I don’t want to report to UCLA if I don 't have to, but I was told I do.

You have to report every course you have taken to the UCs. Courses that are non-transferable will not be counted towards your transfer GPA (which is the main thing they look at).

Right, that’s what I thought. I know they wont count, but a UCLA counselor said I still have to report it. Thanks.

Intermediate algebra is not transferable, so I am not sure. Add it in the application and the UC will let you know later if they want it. They might, solely to see that there aren’t other classes taken.

Yeah, I mistyped my response. You have to report all courses taken at college.

It may or may not count for transfer credit, but the UCs are very clear that you have to report every college you have attended and what you took.

Keep your wits about, don’t let it bring you down.

Delete - thought I was on another thread.
