Will I Receive an Acceptance Letter!? :)

Do you think I even have a chance at Columbia University?!?

GPA: ~ 90
ACTs: 33 (power composite score = 34)
SAT: 2080 (superscore) :\
SAT Subjects: Lit.-700; Math1-730; Math2-710
All honors classes, and APs all four years... elite, prestigious high school – highest ranked in my state, not even on us news report best schools list -- on the "elite" list!
suppposedly adcoms know this (?) and keep it in mind when reviewing
[[---ex: when columbia rep. was at my school, she said av.gpa for accepted students from my high school was B+/A-..... surprised me, but i guess it is still better to be in my h.s. with mediocre grades than regular one with 100 / 4.0 (which there are many students out there with...??)]]
-school does not have a class rank - too competitve

Clubs: (involved in all for all four years, i'm a senior!)(all holding various exec. Positions)

PLEASEEEEE give some feedback on what you think, also, i would like some ED students to say if they had similar stats and were admitted/rejected/waitlist/etc..

THANK YOU SO MUCH!! =] && GOOD LUCK TO ALL OTHER PROSPECTIVE Columbia University 2014ers!!
and i have tried on chance threads, i just want to gear this towards Columbia University specificially!! :]

also, i just had an interview, & personally, i think it went quite well! :) i hope, at least...
also, i applied to Columbia College and the major i put prospectively is a fairly small program -- does that help/hurt/or have no affect on my chances??

thanks againnnnnn! ;)

well, it is impossible to answer the question of whether you will get in or not…there are so many factors such as your race, other people from your school, etc…your ACT is good but your GPA is fairly low this place. your activities do seem nice however, though, do you have a truly stand out one? very very good people with better numbers than you get rejected at columbia, but you still have some chance. good luck!

thanks… umm, let me try to answer some of those questions!
white female – i know, odds are against me
i don’t know anyone else in my entire school applying to Columbia College… everyone applying to Columbia is applying to SEAS (will that help?)
as i said, i know my GPA is pretty low, but like the rep. said (and supposedly she’s the one who reads our apps. from my HS and knows about my HS’s profile…) the av. accepted grade at Columbia University as a whole is about a B+/A-; and lower at the College than Fu Foundation.
umm president? my internship i do in NYC is a pretty important one. i wrote about it for the activity and it is really significant to me. i also talked a lot to my interviewer about it. and my involvement in drama club is extremely involved (over, like, 36 hrs. a week)

also, @ObeseEthiopian: are you a current student, accepted ED 2014, or applicant!? :)

that sounds great! yeah internships are very good(i personally did research, but idk if thats an internship). the fact that your a white female makes your odds neutral actually. URMs are favored, and Asians and Indians(Like myself…do’h!) are at a disadvantage. Unfortunately, I wasnt able to get my lazy self to apply to Penn, but i do know of a number of students who applied to my school, some of whom were accepted in the early decision round, so I have SOME idea of what it takes to get in. Be ware of these chance threads though, especially in the month leading up to admissions. Disgruntled and anxious students might post inaccurate information just to scare you…:P. Also, what to students really know about what it takes to get in to these places?? That’s sort of what I was getting at with saying that there is know way to truly know if you are going to get accepted or not. Also, I realize that my post had somewhat of a biting tone, and I want to apologize for that! You must be anxious enough hahaha…i know i am :stuck_out_tongue: Good Luck!

Handala92…ive noticed that you’ve taken an interest in medicine. have you applied to any combined BS/MD programs? :)

i see…well its different for each program, in some almost none drop out, in others, they unfortunately do. i interviewed at HPME and i know that if i got in i would for sure not drop out hahahaha

@ObeseEthiopian no, it’s fine :slight_smile:
so, are you a RD applicant 2014, too!? ;)

lol by penn i meant columbia hahaha…wow. but the same holds up. i know the stats of people from my school who got accepted and deferred from columbia. also…i think your major matters alot like you said. i know a girl who got into the theater program just based on audition…good luck tho

yeah i didnt apply to columbia…i was thinking about it, but i just didn’t want to fill out yet another non common application hahaha

UniGirl,
I’m guessing you’re a New Yorker, since you interned at a NY museum. What school do you go to?

@ObeseEthiopain: theatre is non-audition at columbia. but i put creative writing as my #1 (i’d prob. double w/ theatre, but i didn’t put theatre on my app. :()
where’d this person get in!?

@pwoods: right outside of the city :)

It’s always hard to tell, since you seem to be kind of on the bubble. Your ECs look good, and apparently with your specific school situation your GPA is good too, but your scores (esp. SAT - did you send them your SAT?) are kind of on the low end.

You asked about ED students’ stats & our results; I applied ED & got deferred. GPA ~97 unweighted, ~100 weighted; 2330 SAT; 760 US History SAT II, 720 Bio SAT II. If you want to know about my ECs or anything I can elaborate.

If the school is really as elite as you’re suggesting, then I’d guess Horace Mann. But I’m not sure whether that counts as “outside the city”.

no, but good guess.
but i’m not going to say on the internet
ha, so any more opinions on this?
only thirty more days!!! is anyone getting SUPER anxious already to hear back like me? :)

well the girl that got deferred got into u chicago early action, and the person who got accepted got accepted into the drama program based on audition

got accepted to columbia based on audition? cause theatre there is non-audition based. maybe she sent supplementary materials?

hmm…your probably right. i just talked to the girl in my class briefly(shes not a friend or anything). and YES i am pretty nervous…April first needs to be tomorrow… @___@

24 days. Superduper freakout time starts… now.

ehh i’m not really “freaking out” freaking out.
i guess whatever happens happens, right?
it’s all out of our control ;)

where are your first choice schools?! :)

Columbia, haha. I applied ED, thought I got all my freaking out over with, figured I’d either get rejected straight up or maybe accepted. Now… here it comes all over again. Deferral rocks. :P

Buuut I’d be happy with Dartmouth or NYU, too. Or Sarah Lawrence, perhaps. What about you?
