So I am very worried about receiving my aid in time to pay for classes this fall. I completed FAFSA before the deadline but didn't submit the taxes until the last week of July because my parents had an extension. They submitted it via mail and according to the IRS, it doesn't upload onto the system for another 6-8 weeks when it is sent by mail, which is what my parents did. I was recently notified by my school that I was chosen for verification. I have submitted everything besides a transcript of the tax return because they are not available online yet. My question is, because I cannot show proof of my taxes will I be disbursed Bright Futures without any delay anyway? I've e-mailed my financial advisor and have called the school but due to the high volume of calls and e-mails, I have not heard from anyone. I was also given a pell grant. Will that be held or taken away too?
If anyone has any clue please write a comment because my parent's are concerned as to how they will pay for my classes by the end of this month.
Thank you.

Call the burcers office, they are the people that collect the tuition. Stay online till you talk to someone. The money should be there in time, it’s just you want the birders to know that. We had a similar issue, with having to do verification, and having the documents at the school for over a month, yet getting a snarky letter saying unless tuition was paid, classes for daughter would be pulled. All the financial aid and loans would cover almost all tuition, yet all bursar sees is we owe money. So I made sure bursar knew and fin aid noted that on account.

You will be fine, but you need to make sure both sides are aware so classes, dorms, etc arent messed with.

A few years back my daughters school didn’t certify a loan on time, their fault, but I had to scramble and go the chain of command as they didn’t want to let daughter register for next semester. Totally schools fault, but we had to jump thru hoops.

So check eerynday online, etc and don’t wait for a call back.

It depends. One school clearly states:
“Any delay in submitting all required documents will cause a delay in awarding of financial aid resulting in the student being responsible for paying all or part of their bill until awarding takes place.”

Ok thank you. That makes me feel better. I will continue to call and send e-mails. I will make it a priority to visit the office as soon as I am back in town for school

Bright Futures aid is not subject to any kind of verification of your income tax return. It’s merit-based, not need-based. It should not be delayed.

Awesome! If I can at least get my bright futures, I will be ok for my tuition and fees. The pell grant can come later if anything. Thanks.
