Will I still be able to get into med school?

I attend Texas A&M. I just finished my first semester of sophomore year. I transferred into A&M after my first year of college. This semester was rough and the grades haven’t been posted but I will likely end with a 2.1 or something around there. My transfer grades are all A’s except for one B in calculus 2 however those are not taken into consideration when calculating gpa. I plan to retake organic chemistry 1 next semester because I received a D. Even if I get A’s and a few B’s in the following semesters my gpa won’t be above a 3.8 (maybe if I’m lucky) With a good MCAT score can I still be accepted into the top 25 med schools?

There is no need to post the same thing twice.
For Med school applications, all college level classes are put into consideration.
Regarding your first semester failure in TA&M, you should evaluate yourself:

  1. Is the A&M class much more difficult than the previous college so that you cannot handle
  2. Is fundamentally you have problem with the material A&M handed out or it was an adjustment problem?
  3. Do you have some outside inferences(ie, medical or family) cause the temporary one semester failure?

since your failure in orgo I, most likely you won’t be able to attend a MD school, try to makeup the failed semester and apply for DO schools TCOM will be very realistic. But from now on, strive to get all A’s and study Mcat so to get a score higher than 525 and you will be fine. As you know, DO schools will allow grade replacement, while MD schools will average ALL grades.

It’s too soon to tell if you will have the stats needed to get into ANY med school, much less a top 25 med school.

Frankly, the D in ochem is very bad sign and earning a GPA and sGPA> 3.8 isn’t going to be as easy as you seem to believe.

BTW, it take much more than merely great numbers to get accepted into top med school. You need great ECs to go along with the great stats. Your numbers only get you considered for admission, it’s your ECs (and PS, and essays and LOEs) that get you invited to interview.

Your first year will count for GPA when applying to med school. What is your cum GPA including those grades?

I’m not sure that you can get up to a 3.8 GPA. How many credits did you take during fall semester?

How many credits did you take last year? Did you do your freshman year at a CC or where?

Why are you concerned about “top 25 med schools” when your concern should be getting into ANY US MD school.

Retake ochem1 and aim for a DO school that allows grade replacement.

With a D I don’t think your sGPA can recover.
All your grades will count for medical school, including the earlier (Blinn?) grades but only DO schools will accept the second orgo grade.
Right now you should focus on DO schools, plan to take a glide year (applying to med schools in spring senior year) to improve your GPA as much as possible.
