Will I still be eligible to get into Med School??

Hi, I am I first-semester sophomore at my college. I want to go to Medical School to be a Psychiatrist but the thing is, I am not your every day brainiac I graduated high school 55th in a class of 160.. But I have a deep strong passion for Psychology and I want to make the big bucks. So instead of getting a Ph.D in psychology I would rather go through the hard science and math classes to be able to take the MCAT and go to Med School. Am I too late into my Bachelors to switch from a liberal art degree to a science degree? I know I will have to jam all the necessary couses into two years since im a sophomore but im just wondering is it still possible to go premed this late? Will med schools not let me in because I started so late?

You don’t have to change your major. There are premed psych majors. You just have to add in the premed prereqs. Med schools won’t care that you’re taking them now, and not as a frosh.

BTW…Psychiatrists are amongst the lowest paid MDs…so if you want the big bucks, that’s probably not the way to go. You’ll have lots of debt from med school.

I would recommend banking/finance or consulting if you’re looking to make big bucks.

You might actually want to look at marketing and brand development because there is actually a lot of psychology in those fields.

There are only two types of big buck psychiatrists neither of which represent the typical psychiatrist. One is the extremely expert talk therapist who sees exclusively rich clients willing to pay top dollar for your services, the other is high volume medication management (seeing lots of patients every day for very short appointments to make sure their medication isn’t having bad side effects) which really just means your a pharmacologist.
