Will it look bad to colleges that I scored worse on subject tests the 2nd time?

When I retook the test in December I was sick (cold/cough) and couldn't concentrate, and even though I had studied I did worse on my subject tests than before.

I took these tests before:
Chemistry- 680 (June 2009)
Math II- 720 (June 2010)
Physics- 610 (June 2010)

I took these in December 2010:
Chemistry- 640
Math II- 710
Literature- 560

Needless to say, I'm freaking out! I already sent these scores to a few colleges with the free score reports... What will they think? Do I have to send them to all the other colleges I'm applying to? If I don't want to send them would I have to pay score choice fees? And does that violate the non-score choice policy most colleges have?

Any words of advice would help. Thanks!

don’t worry about the fact that you’re scores got lower. the difference between the two is not substantial.
a 720 and a 710 fall into the same range. it’s probably like one question difference.
same goes for 640 and 680. it’s the fact that you took it and tried not just once but twice. don’t let the numbers freak you out! you’ve done great and they will see that.

Now some school let you choose the best, while others have you send it all of them, but only consider the best. either way, the schools will take into consideration your top scores.
You cannot do score choice for schools that do not offer it. So let’s say Georgetown University says you dont have score choice. You need to send them all, and we will only consider the best. You wont have the option to only send the ones you want. Does that make sense?

So yes. if the school doesnt allow you to do score choice, then you are not allowed to do it. it’s simple. I don’t think it even gets as far as “violating.” you simply wont have the option when your placing the order on college board.

Good Job on all of them and dont stress out!

bumpbumpbump : )

Scores are not that much different and most colleges that require subject tests will use the highest two to evaluate admission so you really don’t have much of an issue. The exceptions are Harvard and Princeton which will consider any scores sent. If college requires all SAT II scores, you need to send them all (note the “all scores” rules for colleges that have them vary so check actual rules because some that have it require all SATs but allow you to pick which subject test scores to send). Note, contrary to what is stated above College Board allows you to exercise score choice even if the college is anti-score choice; it just gives a warning about the college’s rule if you attempt to do so to let you know you are using score choice at your own risk. If the college accepts score choice just send your best two (except Johns Hopkins, which does not require subject tests recommends three) if you have not sent scores to it yet.

Thanks! Should I just send my 720 Math and 680 Chemistry then? Every one of my schools only require two subject tests.

Or should I send the 610 Physics OR 560 Lit in addition? Those two are reallyyyy bad scores.
