Although college adcoms only look at your high school record, what if you took high school level courses in junior high? I know they don't count towards your gpa - but do colleges look at them?

The only other study hall I took was in 9th grade because I had taken Phys. Ed. over the summer. Actually I attended summer school two years in a row in order to get Phys. Ed. taken are of. And then the following 2 summers, I went to school abroad. Will the college adcom people take notice that I've been in summer school (not because I had to or anything) for the past 4 summers? I'm definitely not a slacker, even though I have a study hall this year.

IMHO, taking a hard workload does not demonstrate a love of learning. It demonstrates a drive to get into the college of your choice, where you can begin to pursue your love of learning. Let's face it, you don't learn jack in high school. The smart people aren't smart because they pay attention in class; they're smart because they do their learning outside.

Study Hall DOES NOT affect chances of college admissions...sheesh...especially if its required (you may want to make note of that on your transcript, though, as 2 study halls is a little excessive).

What colleges look for is demanding classes (APs) and unique student who has good SAT and SAT II stats w/ leadership qualities and etc. etc. They're not gonna freaking care if you took study hall but are a starting varsity quarterback and get straight As in AP classes.
