I went to a community college over 20 years ago and had athletic scholarships + student loans. I had several family deaths within a few years of finishing (both parents and a grandma). All 3 of them were ill out of state and during their final months I spent alot of time there and not working, therefore I got into a horrible financial situation that only continued spiraling downward with each additional loss. I was not able to continue paying my student loan and defaulted. I dated someone who was needing a class that I also wanted to take at another community college. He offered to pay for the class if I would take it with him so we could help each other so I did. I'm sure that I had to send them my transcript from my previous college. I have tried twice over the last 10 years or so to get my transcript from my first college where I have 61 hours and because I defaulted they will not give it to me. I understand they have that right. However, if I contact the 2nd college I went to for a copy of my transcript, would they give me both transcripts...the one I sent them from my previous college during the application process as well as my transcript from them??? I sincerely appreciate any knowledgable answers. Thanks alot!

It is unlikely that the second school kept the transcript from the first one over the last 20 years. It is possible that they recorded the courses from the first collect on their transcript, however, as transfer credit. Different schools list transfer credit with varying levels of detail. Some include grades and others do not. You need to see how much detail is there.

Since this was one class at the CC level, and it was about 20 years ago, there is every chance that you were allowed to enroll for just that one course without sending a transcript from your first college. If you were in default when you enrolled, you wouldn’t have been able to get it anyway.

Scrape together your pennies. Settle your debt with your first college. Get on with your life.
