I transferred from a public high school in the US to an international high school in another country for my second semester senior year after being accepted by McGill.
-I dropped all my AP and honors classes for regular classes because the new school didn’t have AP
-It was out of my control
-I will receive Bs, B+s, or As in the classes I’m taking at my new school.
-I will graduate with a high school diploma on time
Will my acceptance be rescinded because I dropped all of my challenging AP courses? this was all out of my control and there was nothing I could do to prevent the transfer. My guidance counselor said I should be fine but I’m still concerned. Any insight or opinions will be greatly appreciated.
strangers on the internet are less familiar with the policies at McGill than the people that work in admissions at McGill. It isn’t like they won’t notice this on your transcript if you don’t raise the issue by contacting them.
Contact McGill is the answer. Explain your situation. If your family moved, it is out of your control. I think you will be fine but better to alert them to the move then to have them surprised when they get your final transcript.
@chavixavi -Colleges only expect students to take classes that are available to them. So if you transferred to a school with no AP classes, you won’t be penalized for not taking any. However, it can’t hurt to drop a note to McGill explaining this situation briefly. I also assume that you are taking rigorous classes at your new school. However, I realize also that, by entering this school mid-year, some of the more rigorous classes may not have been available to you. You don’t have anything to worry about but, even so, it’s wise to check in with McGill to point out that your new school doesn’t have course offerings that are comparable to what you took at your old school.
