Will my ACT score hurt me at these elite universities.

I’m white, unhooked.

Highest single sitting:
C: 32
E: 35
M: 31
R: 34
S: 27

Highest superscore (although most schools do not superscore)
C: SUPERSCORED 33
E: 35
M: 35
R: 34
S: 27

Schools I’m looking at:

Northwestern
Duke
Cornell
Brown
Dartmouth
UPenn
UC Berkeley
Johns Hopkins

Obviously I have matches and safeties.

It is hard to answer your question without any other stats (GPA, extracurriculars, etc.). Your scores are in no way a deal breaker, especially if you have strong extracurriculars to make up for it.

Most of these schools have a 33 median ACT, so unhooked applicants should aim for the 33-34 range. The notable exception is Berkeley, which has a ~31 median ACT and places much more weight on GPA.

@goldenbear2020 Even for Duke the median is 33? Btw, how do you know what the median is?

Duke’s 25%-75% range is 31-34, which means its median is most likely 33 (the 25%-ile is mostly hooked applicants)

The 25%-75% range among the accepted pool is 31-35 for A&S and 33-35 for Engineering.
