I just found out yesterday through the mail that I had been accepted as a pre-Biz Econ major at UCSB with a 3.26 GPA, which I was thrilled about. However, I was reviewing the requirements on the assist.org UCSB page and it says:

"Admission selection information:
Transfer students who wish to declare the business economics major must complete
the following four courses with a 2.75 grade-point average, with no individual
grade less than "C": one microeconomics course, one macroeconomics course, one
statistics course, and one calculus course."

I got a B- in Microecon, a B in stats, a C in Calc 1A (I just found that out today), and I haven't found out my Macroecon grade yet (should find out in the next few days) but I think it will be a B.

Anyway, if I weight all of those equally and assume I get a B in Macroecon, my combined GPA for those for classes would be 2.65, which is obviously below the 2.75 that I apparently need according to the information on ASSIST. Will my admission be rescinded because of this (I have IGETC and all pre-reqs completed, assuming I pass all of my classes next quarter)? If so, what are my options? Can I retake one of the classes and get a higher grade? I am taking Calc 1B in the spring, but I had so much difficulty with Calc 1A that I doubt I can pull of any higher than a C so I wouldn't want to count on it. Is this likely to have any effect or would it only matter in the pre-admissions process?

I am in a very similar situation… I got accepted for pre bus econ and i gotta get an A in my finite math class which is gonna be taken in the summer and I don’t even know if there going to allow that. Can I switch over on the major?

Finite math is also known as Algebra for business majors.

it’s sort of like calc for business majors except instead of requiring that you take a dumbed down version of a hard class you take a highly dumbed down version of an easy class. I’m in it right now, easiest math class I’ve had in a LONG, LONG time, all review from highschool other than a few business/finance equations which the professor wrote ON the test for me. Haven’t gone to a single lecture nor done the HW and I’m on track for an A

Just a guess but I’m assuming that the rules are in place for a reason. So yes, there is a good chance you’ll be rescinded if you don’t get the required 2.75 GPA minimum.

Wait… I got in for Pre-Bus Econ but lets say I switch majors over to business and accounting my gpa for the four classes (1 Calc course, 1 accounting course, 1, macro, 1 micro) would be 2.75 exactly (excluding the finite class I’m going to take over the summer) will I still be ok for the school of letters and science? If not what are my other options looking like because this was my #1 school lol

They won’t let you replace that C with an A or B. Trust me, I actually re-took a class, got an A, and then was told that I couldn’t actually do it by the same counselor who originally told me I could. I hate her.
