Will my art supplement really make that much of a difference?

I’m planning on applying to harvard EA next fall, with up-to-par GPA/test scores/as many AP’s as possible/etc., but my main focus that I will stress in my application is art. I have won a few scholastic art awards, painted murals throughout my school/town, and (not trying to sound too bombastic) have a pretty impressive portfolio (I’ll submit a supplement). If this is my main “distinguishing factor”, do you think it will make much of a difference? Do admissions officers care about the visual arts very much?

Well, if you’re applying for an art major it does. They’re going to review the portfolio and judge it against many other applicant portfolios.

@southernbelle16‌ I intent to major in architecture which will require a lot of art classes… Do you think that will carry similar weight?

Also- one of my essays will be about painting

Possibly. I think it’s worth a shot. I want a studio art minor, so I’m not really sure about a major in the arts field. Do you have any sketches of buildings or something related to architecture in your portfolio?

Not yet, but I’m working on one currently, and I’m attending an architecture program this summer that will help me expand my portfolio further.

Then I think you’ll be fine!

I would look to Harvard’s description of the Arts Supplement. They are looking for “truly exceptional talents or achievements”. Here is another quote; “please only submit them if you have unusual talents…”.

I suspect they get more than they would like.
