Will my ECs and SAT IIs hold me back?

I'm an international aspiring to attend JHU. I just became a permanent resident of the US though, hence me wanting to pursue med. My SAT 1 was good and my gpa and class ranking are also both great.

My SAT IIs, however, are rather poor in my opinion (please correct me if I'm wrong - Bio M 710, Chem 710, Math 2 680 - taken only once and all 3 weren't actually studied for due to lack of time since I got the books too late). My CAPE (caribbean equivalent of A Levels) were all As for my subjects with great profiles so will SAT 2 hurt me?

Also, as far as ECs, I don't exactly have a long list because I have been devoted to the chess club my entire time in high school, representing the school in tournaments and such and was treasurer and secretary of the club, captained 2 teams an am the current club president. Besides that, I was on the school volleyball team for a year, joined interact for 2 years until it crumbled due to mismanagement and then joined capoeira for 2 years. As far as volunteering I have mentoring stuff from school and this biotech thing I did this summer. Will my dedication to chess balance my small quantity of ECs? I've been looking at the stats for other CCers and I've gotten a bit worried. My stats seem pretty small compared to theirs.

they're not. don't worry about it. the admissions counselor told us when i was there that they dont care about sat iis. and those scores are fine anyway. like good.

and ecs dont have to be outstanding for jhu. just seem well rounded. i think you're fine.

are you serious? Glad to hear the scores are ok still, but then didn't they say that SAT IIs were a requirement?

SAT II's are recommended. However, the Hopkins admissions officers heavily hinted that you'd better have good SAT II's if you wish to do BME.

Well, I'm hoping to major in Bio or cognitive science or maybe math. What about those areas?

It wouldn't really matter as JHU admits based on major only for BME. Having SAT II's will make you look better than those without them though.

oh ok. Thanks much.

That is absolutely not true. SAT II subject exams are recommended, not required, but that does not mean they do not matter. There is no official advantage nor disadvantage to submitting SAT II scores. It is the choice of each individual student whether they want to submit SAT II subject exam scores and how many exams they want to submit. However, we want applicants to consider our recommendations as strong recommendations, therefore submitting SAT II scores will make a difference in the application review. There is no way to predict whether submitting scores will impact the review of the application positively or negatively, as they are part of the comprehensive review of an applicant's file.

Well, I submitted my SAT IIs. I sure hope they don't work against me.
