Will my Grade 10 marks affect me getting into an Ivy League?

Hello. I am a Grade 10 student who is currently residing in Canada. I am apart of the Pre-Ib program and I aspire to continue to go into the full program in Grades 11 and 12. I have a question: How much do grade 10 marks matter when applying to an Ivy League university. My overall average in Grade 9 was 94 (I messed around a bit). Currently my marks are 97 (or more) in Science, 93 in math, 90 in History, and lastly 86 in French ( My mark probably dropped a bit as I messed up a presentation). Personally I think my French mark is very bad, considering I am actually kind of decent at French. Anyway, I know that I still have time to make up for my marks but I want to know how much to Grade 10 marks matter. On top of all this, I do taekwondo, I started 2 clubs at my school, am apart of our student government, volunteer at multiple places, and joined many youth organizations outside of my school. However I still feel like I am lacking though. Any insight will be welcome, whether positive or negative. Thank you so much in advance. Next year Ill go sickomode and try hard

High School performance, in terms of grades/GPA, is one the most important, if not the most important, factor in the college acceptance process. It’s not the only thing, but it’s certainly important.

At application time, you’ll have grades for 9th, 10th, and 11th grade. Some schools disregard 9th grade, some don’t. More recent grades are probably weighted a bit more (upward trend is better than a downward trend), but 10th grade is only one year previous to your latest grades.

So yes, 10th grade grades certainly affect college admissions decisions.

I certainly wouldn’t recommend to anyone that they wait for junior year until they “try hard” as a strategy for college admissions. Or even just in general.

Marks in grade 11 will matter more. However, all of your grades in high school will matter for Ivy League schools. I don’t think that Stanford cares about grade 9, but of course it is not in the Ivy League. Most international applicants to Ivy League schools have excellent grades throughout high school. Even with this the vast majority are turned down.

The good news is that you have many excellent universities in Canada. Also, I know a number of people who got their bachelor’s in Canada and their master’s and/or PhD in the US, including some very top schools in the US.

Yes.

That said, your marks are well within range.
