Will my math score hurt me?

Ok, so i got:

800 W (11 E, 79 MC)
760 CR
690 M

now, i usually do really well in math. i have no idea what went wrong here...

i actually thought that i had aced the math section, and totally bombed cr and w.

now, my question is...will my math score affect me in admissions? do i need to retake?

careless mistakes perhaps? Take the Math SAT Lvl 2 and score an 800 to compensate for that score, it's much more forgiving in terms of careless mistakes. But irregardless I would probably retake to bring up the math score.

i'm afraid that if i retake, i'll get a lower score =(

are you a junior or senior? if you're a junior you get score choice (starting for class of 2010, so jealous). if you;re a senior then send your scores to schools that you know you are applying to and then take the other test. once you get that test back, you can choose to send it or not. chances are, you will go down in math and writing but probably only by a few points and you will go up in math. that seems to happen to most kids..they go up in one or two and always go down in some section. colleges expect it. that's why they pick the best scores. they want their stats to be good, so they're not going to care if you get a 690 on one math and a 750 on another...they want the college to benefit thus, they'll take the 750.

690 is in the 93rd percentile...... it really isn't a horrible score.

but it could be, depending on where you apply.

StrangeIndianFoo, my situation is nearly identical to yours, except 780 CR and 660 Math. I was shocked that my Math went down so much...

I'm retaking next week to try and up that math score.
