Will my Score be acceptable to IVY and UPitt guranteed med program?

Hi guys, this is something you all have discussed many times. But I wanted to ask again given my scores.
Is this an acceptable score for Uni of Pitt guaranteed medical program ?
650(CR)
680(M)
800(W)
10(Essay)
Will Ivys not look at my ECs(national speech and debate semi finalist and have done 3yrs research at pitt) after they see my SAT CR and M scores?
Why the heck they are getting us to do writing if they dont appreciate Writing and Essay? Thats my forte.
Any comments greatly appreciated. I am on regular decision..

Forgot to tell, I am a Senior from West Virginia…

ECs do not trump scores that don’t meet the school’s expectation.

Your W score is largely irrelevant. Your M+CR is not high enough for ivies or a BS/MD admittance.

You have a 1330 M+CR, which is equivalent to an ACT 30 (not high enough for probably any BS/MD program w/o a serious hook).

UPitt is going to accept BS/MD students whose scores (M+CR) are high enough that the school can assume that the student would likely have scored high enough on the MCAT and get into med school thru traditional means.

I would imagine that UPitt is looking at (no guarantees) students with 1450 minimum test scores for its BS/MD program …unless the student has a serious hook, such as a male AA URM with slightly lower scores.

UPitt is likely expecting students to have at least an ACT 33 or 1450 M+CR

As m2ck mentioned, for UPitt, your credentials will not meet the basic requirements for SOM GAP.

https://oafa.pitt.edu/who-fits-at-pitt/guaranteed-admissions-programs/medicine-gap/

what is male AA URM ? Then how about Ivys? I know my CR+M is bad. Will they look at Writing and the Essay?

^^^ Thanks for the link…I was just guessing the minimums…and there they are!

Again, when BS/MD programs are accepting students, they are taking a calculated risk so they try to accept students that they believe would have “made it thru” undergrad with the right GPA and MCAT scores to get accepted to med school if they had gone the traditional route. My younger son’s med school housemate was a BS/MD student. He had the minimum ACT 33 and a high GPA…he was admitted 6 years ago to a different BS/MD program…but many have about the same minimums.

Someone with an ACT 30 is likely going to be considered to be “too borderline”.

Thanks, M2C… Anyone has any comments on my acceptance to any IVY with this scores?

^^^

all you have to do is look at the ivies middle quartiles and you’ll see that your scores are below those numbers. That lower quartile is for special admits…athletes and such…not run of the mill admits.

What is the big deal about going to an Ivy? With YOUR stats and med school aspirations, an ivy is the LAST place you should be. THE LAST PLACE

You are going about this whole thing WRONG.

Instead of focusing on top schools where YOU will be the weakest student in the classroom and the one who will likely end up with the B or C in the class, YOU should be focusing on schools where you can shine.

You need a high GPA to get into med school. That won’t likely happen at a top school where every premed has been Val/Sal of his high school and came in with at 2300 SAT.

M2C looks like you have done lot of research, Ball park can you let me know what schools you think best fit for my scores ? Still I have time to change as I am on regular decision

The 30 ACT might get OP into some places for BSMD look at premedhq.com there are a few places listed which might work. But then double check with the school

^^^

Unless the OP is a male URM, an ACT 30 virtually has no hope getting into a BS/MD program.

Tell me more…

What is your GPA?

What is your home state?

How much will your parents pay?

What is your intended major?

My parents are in WV but went to school in PA as I was in the border. So my home state is PA.
GPA so far is 3.8
Intend major is Bio/Chemistry Research and hoping to go to Med School.
Parents will be able to pay half of the cost (about $20K/yr).

You went to school in PA, so perhaps that qualifies you for instate rates in PA? (is that the rule for PA high schools?)…but you are probably still a WV resident. WV is likely your home state…not PA.

Your parents pay taxes in WV, right?

Do you know?

how are you going to pay the other half of college? YOU can only borrow $5,500 as a frosh. And, actually, as a premed, you shouldn’t borrow much at all (better than you borrow NOTHING) since med school is so expensive and you’ll be borrowing a LOT for that.

other part from scholarships and grants hopefully. Yes every parent pays taxes.
