Will not having 4 years of language in HS be a disadvantage?

I’m doing the IB program and am taking Spanish for my world language. I’m honestly not very good at Spanish though and it’s been especially hard doing Spanish through online school this year. So I don’t really want to take HL Spanish, but is I take SL I will only have 3 years of world language in high school. How much of a disadvantage will this be for college admissions compared to people who have taken 4 years of language?

S21 only had 2 yrs and has been accepted to some honors programs at schools. I do not think it put him at a disadvantage at all.

Check the schools requirements, most say 3 preferred, but not required. Also, talk to your guidance counselor. What will you replace it with? If you are going for engineering and replaced it with an engineering course or another AP, I cannot see a college holding that against you.

This really depends on where you plan on applying to. Most colleges and universities say they require at least two years of a language, but not all. I would definitely check out specific schools’ websites under their admission requirements. I don’t think you should fret too much though unless you’re looking at Ivys or schools equivalent to them.

It’s quite dependent on the school. I think there are still schools that “recommend” four or “three or more”, where it may be a negative. But iirc, the number of schools expecting four is very low, and at the very elite level.
