Hi,
I chose to be math regular in my sophomore year so now I’m stuck with Calculus AB instead of BC in my senior year. Other math/Business courses I take include AP Micro & Macro & Stats as well as Business Studies (non AP).
I have a 3.9/4 UW GPA and 4.8/5 W GPA as well as a 2100 SAT. Planning on taking SAT 2 in MATH.
Will not taking Calculus BC hurt my chances of getting into the top business schools in the USA?
(I will explain that I didn’t have a choice.)
Please tell me how grave my situation is. You really help make a difference in my life.
Thank you
You can learn the units of BC on your own and take the BC test.
On a scale of 1-10 for graveness? About negative 1,000,000!!
Seriously, relatively few students get to BC, and the vast majority of those are potential STEM majors. Even with “just” AB, you will still be ahead of the curve.
I agree with @lostaccount
The only difference between AB and BC in terms of content is series and a few misc. topics. If you feel like your are missing out, you can self-study and take the exam. The common application even lets you report AP exams you plan to take even though you haven’t taken them yet.
OMG Thankyou so much, you really made me feel better.
The question is not about the AP exam, which has little impact in admission, but the class. It seems OP has enough course rigor even without Calc BC, so OP should not worry.
@confusedsenior28 Are you sure your school has a Calc AB pre-req for taking Calc BC? It seems your school is spreading the Calc BC into two years. Most schools do not take this route and students can take AP Calc BC without taking Calc AB first.
