Overall GPA: 3.87
Total Units: 61
Major: Mathematics
I’ve taken as many math classes possible at my community college within two years. Calculus I, II, III, Linear Algebra, and Differential Equations. Got all A’s but only one B in Calculus II.
I also have 2 semesters of biology + lab, 1 semester of chemistry + lab, and 3 semesters of calculus based physics which I got an A for all. And in my first semester I took four philosophy courses and received all A’s except for one which was a B.
My main concern is about my SAT scores that were taken more than two years ago during High School. They’re pretty bad, let’s just say the total was lower than 1500. How much would this affect my application?
Considering it’s for Ivies, it would impact your chances significantly. Obviously, if you are applying to enter as a junior (judging by your amount of credits) the schools do not place as much emphasis. I would say for the Ivies it’s even more pivotal to have great SAT scores as a transfer, simply because it is factored into the application process, too, nor do they make any exceptions regardless of how long ago you took them. Plus, you need to have a genuinely good reason for transferring too – for most Ivies, it is nearly impossible to get in as a transfer because there are so few spots to accommodate all highly qualified transfer applicants. Your GPA seems great, especially considering your major, but if you have the chance I would consider retaking them.
I had the same issue – my college GPA is a 3.8+, too, and I was somewhat dissuaded to apply to an Ivy as a transfer due to my terrible SATs from high school. I wouldn’t say it would hurt to apply, but I’m forewarning you it’s unlikely… especially if it’s lower than 1500.
