Anyway, in my Freshman year I took an honors US History course, but around the end of the year I started self-studying for the AP, and I took it and passed! But I got a 3.

How bad will this seem to these two universities? I'm in the IB Diploma program at my school, and I'm doing very well in my classes-will probably do well on my IB exams- but this AP score seems like it could bring me down. Would I have to submit it to them if I sent them all my IB scores? Also, in that same vein, do I even need to submit any SAT IIs if I'm giving them my IB results?

Thanks, I'm just rather confused about the UK application process.

It depends on what you are applying to study. Only related subjects are given much weight. If you are applying for a science subject no-one will care about any history grades. If you are applying for histiory, you’ve got a problem.

I suggest you go and research the UK system a bit more at this stage. You can only apply to Oxford or Cambridge, not both for undergrad in the same year. You apply for one specific “course” which is effectibely your major. It is extremely difficult to switch 9usually you would have to drop out and re-apply).

I suggest you contact UCAS about UCAS form questions.

Thanks cupcake, I didn’t realize that you can’t actually apply to both, and it’s good to know that they only look at relevant scores.
No, I’m also looking at a few other UK unis, mainly St Andrews and Edinburgh.

Honey, it’s called Oxbridge. I think IB scores are just enough but you must be a well rounded person. I know someone who got 44 and didn’t get in due to her being too academically focused. Unlike the US we, in England, dont bother looking at grades before the IB diploma so you should be fine I think.

I think the EXACT OPPOSITE of aloveforvogue! “Well-rounded” is NOT what Oxbridge is looking for in any way. They want the brightest and the best. The most academically focused students they can find. I cannot believe anyone could be “too academically focused” for Oxbridge. If that is true, it is completely the opposite of my experience of being an Oxbridge student for 7 years.

At Oxford you must receive a “5” on each of your AP exams. They will tell you precisely which APs you must take. The won’t consider any other APs. That said, they will see your exam results and, unfortunately, a “3” will almost certainly result in a rejection.

ECs etc. don’t count though obviously they do look for evidence of originality, creativity etc.
