Will one subject test suffice for admission to Princeton/Dartmouth/Brown?

I will be applying RD for Fall 2018. I have only taken one subject test and am worried that my application might be dismissed as two are recommended. I have my reasons. I come from a low income family (annual income just a little above what is eligible for the SAT fee waiver). I also had to take the TOEFL (as I am a US citizen living abroad). Also, the SAT is way more expensive to take outside the US. I had to retake the SAT too. All the testing and sending of score reports greatly exceeded my budget. Has anyone been accepted without two SAT II scores? Also where and how in my application can I indicate my circumstances?

It says on Dartmouth’s website that they don’t even require subject tests for admission and that your application will receive consideration even if they aren’t sent. If you want to communicate to Dartmouth that you were unable to take two because of financial reasons you can probably send them an email or upload a document to the admissions portal once your account is created.

Indicate in additional info. Remember SAT Subject test aren’t required–they’re recommended. This is for people like you who can’t afford to take them. Don’t worry about it.

US Citizens living abroad do NOT have to take TOEFL as far as I know.

It depends upon the college. There is no standard. We don’t know the OP’s situation, but a US citizen born and raised in Mongolia and attending a HS where the language of instruction is not English, would almost certainly have to take TOEFL, as an example. US citizenship by itself will rarely lead to an exemption.

Some colleges don require me to take the TOEFL, while some don’t.
