Will Spanish/French help me in any way at Engineering Graduate School (or admission)

Hello Everyone,

I don’t know if this is a relevant question or not, so sorry if it’s not, but I was just wondering if knowing Spanish or (specifically) French would aid me in anyway in Engineering Grad School in USA or Grad Admission. I am a new Junior Year EEE student and am currently weighing in the option to enroll into a French Language program (only in weekends). I always wanted to learn French, but I am really in a tight schedule right now. So if I find any practical Importance of Learning French I’d go ahead and do it. Thanks as always and Happy New Year to all.

Not really, no. I suppose there is a chance that a French or Spanish-speaking advisor might look more favorably on a non-native but fluent student, but it is a bit of a longshot to think it would have a meaningful impact on admissions or your studies.

That having been said, I would always encourage someone to learn a new language if they can do so without detracting from something more important!
