Will sports grade hurt my chances?

I'm a current sophomore and instead of taking a P.E. class this year, i took a sport and that is football. I did pretty well in the first season/semester and of course, got an automatic A (like any P.E. / Sports related class should give at my school). But soon I decided I wasn't going to play junior year and focus more on academics. My coach has given me a C! for not attending spring practice that started on the first week of May and refuses to change it because of me missing out on a month of practice for Varsity players. I could say it's my fault but :/

So I'm devastated at this point and of course, my GPA will drop a pretty good amount. I'm an As/Bs student taking an AP and a Honors class this year. I reside in California and was hoping to get into one of the UCs in the future. Will this C in a "P.E." class hurt my chances in getting admitted? Help, at this point i'm discouraged to the max.

UC’s don’t look at your PE grades. They do their own GPA calculation using grades 10 and 11 “a through g” courses only. If you don’t know what “a through g” is, go to [University of California Doorways Home](http://www.ucop.edu/doorways/) and input your school name. You can see the list of all courses for your HS that the UC’s count in the GPA.

okay that sounds great. hopefully you’re correct and i’ll keep that in mind. i can now focus more on my other classes/finals right now.
