Will the decrease in UC Transfer applicants help?

3.7 GPA Sociology major got waitlisted for UCSD?

Well, there goes my hope of being accepted.

@asphyxiac that is interesting and i see this is a good sign only. Since I did not tag to any school I have a more equal chance like everyone else. I noticed for UCSD the first batch was only TAG students while at UCD the first batch was a mix of TAG & NO TAG. I am sure you’ll be fine, in fact you will be given preference at UCSD since you tagged.

Lawlking, you know what’s weird? Someone with a 3.27 No tag got into UCSD with a sociology major last year…I kinda think UCSD thinks that it’s better to reject people with high gpa’s because there’s a goood chance they’d get into LA or Berk and choose than instead of UCSD.

I agree. but I think colleges should accept more students than the spots(i.e. they should refer past year’s enrollment rate to decide how many applicants to be accepted

Agree Rengo! Meh, 58 days and counting lol

Just because they have 2,410 spots doesn’t mean they are going to admit 2,410 people. Last year they admitted 7,612 people (2,803 actually enrolled), and the year before 8,031 (2,568 actually enrolled). Since they’ve over enrolled a bit the past few years they’ll probably admit a bit less than 7,612 people this year. Lets just speculate and say they admit 7,000 people, minus the 3,602 TAGs, leaves 3,398 spaces for non-tagged people. There will probably even be more room than that for non-tags as 3,602 TAG APPLCIATIONS doesn’t mean 3,602 people actually qualify for TAG. There are always people who just check off tag on the UC application because it sounds like a good idea and don’t actually qualify or had not bothered filling out the September TAG form. I think they reject very few, if any, TAG applicants who actually qualify. If UCSD decides that you do not qualify as a TAG applicant they then review you as a normal applicant (without telling you) so there is a possibility that you might be waitlisted/rejected. So, you get people saying they were a TAG applicant and were rejected/waitlisted, when they didn’t actually qualify. UCSD is weird and doesn’t tell you in November if you are qualified as a TAG, but instead encourages you to apply, so everyone thinks they are a TAG applicant. Plus, many people applying to UCLA or UCB tag UCSD as a safety, if they get in then they wont go to UCSD.

Jdom, that was lovely. I do agree that some of these “TAG” people got rejected because they didn’t qualify when they thought they did. When I called, they said that if you don’t have TAG, you need a 3.8+ to get in…which is kinda fishy because I personally know people who got in with 3.2’s+ last year to non-impacted majors. UCSD is weird…i agree. They never specify. Maybe the 3.8+ meant for impacted majors…but then again TAG doesn’t effect impacted majors. Meh, we’ll just have to wait…patiently. LOL

Waiting patiently is the hardest part…
