I got waitlisted at my top school: George Washington University. My first semester grades were as follows:
Calculus: A
AP Physics B: A
AP World: A-
AP English Lit: A-
Pottery: A
Yoga (lol): A
GPA: 3.89
My Q3 grades are:
Calculus: A-
AP Physics B: A-
AP English Lit: A-
AP World: A-
Psychology: A
GPA: 3.74
Since this is not an upward trend, will it hurt or help my chances of getting accepted off the waitlist? My Q3 grades are still around GW’s average, but they are lower than my first semester.
Your Q3 curriculum is much more impressive than your Q1 (?). With many seniors suffering from senioriitus your grades are impressive. The best way to get off a waiting list is to do well academically (as you are) and to find a strong advocate for you (typically your guidance counselor).
Well the Curriculum is the same except I swapped out yoga and pottery for Psych, but the grades in the classes that are constant for the year dropped a little. I do have my guidance counselor writing a follow up rec and another teacher rec coming as well. I also have a few more EC’s that I’m telling the admissions committee about (Community Service and an economics competition at my state’s statehouse). In the end, it all comes down to how many of their accepted students enroll, so it’s up in the air at this point.
Colleges you are waitlisted at won’t see any grades for the rest of the year. Your high school only sends out your final grades to the school you matriculate at. Once you are accepted off the waitlist, you have to tell your guidance counselor, and then they send the final transcript with notice of graduation. I believe you can ask them to send 3rd q grades if u really want them to be considered
