Hi!
I have some reach schools (Ivy League schools basically) that I know I have a very low chance of getting into, but I have yet to lose all hope (besides, I can always try again for my next degree )…
But the general consensus here on collegeconfidential seems to be that you need some big awards to stand out/have a decent chance (especially if you have some 25th% scores on the SAT like me).
I’ll list what awards I have and I’ll appreciate it forever if you could let me know - in your honest opinion - do you think these awards will be enough to satisfy the “need some big award” thing?
(also if you think I should drop any of these from my application)
(and yes I know these won’t make people go “wow”, I just want to know if it’ll at least make the people reading my application go “hmm…”)
- Two years in a row first place at a national English Language competition
- National finalist at a creative writing (in english) competition
- Some ecology awards that are more for merit than for competing
(These last two are the bigger ones)
- Three years in a row national champion (aka first place) at the MOS World Championship
- Silver medal at the MOS World Championship (this time at the worldwide level)
(I know the MOS WC isn’t some particularly hard championship, but there are A LOT of competitors (they say around 600k from around the world, though I obviously don’t know the exact numbers, and around 100 proceed to the final world round))
Aaand that’s it, thanks for taking the time to read this!
