I'm applying to Wharton btw.

SAT: CR 670
M 800
W 790

SAT2: Chinese 800
Math II 780
Chem 730
Physics 710

I'm definitely not a science person, more the writer type (Editor in chief of 2 publications with one being national, intern reporter for 2 yrs)

I know they are not downright horrible scores, but every little aspect counts in the admissions process, so they say, so would my weak scores in CR and Physics necessarily make me look "bad"? Are these scores something to deny my admission for?

Also, How bad does it look if I only took 2 years of Spanish at school because of my counselor's blind recommendation that I should be fine with my 800 Chinese? For schools like Cornell, I know I am in trouble bc 3yrs foreign language is a requirement... and my counselor "forgot" that she told me this 2 years ago so she is NOT going to write a letter for me explaining my foreign language requirement. I am royally screwed in the butt.. so any assistance??

Forgot to add: Applied ED :]]

The CR will definitely hurt, but I think overall your scores will be okay since you made it up with your M and W. Your SAT subjects are overall okay.

As for the foreign language… I’m not sure.

Well you have high math scores, which is good for Wharton. I don’t honestly think they’ll care as much about the CR in the end even though it stands out as relatively low – your score’s still above average for the whole school (maybe slightly above average for Wharton). If you don’t get in ED, it may be worth boosting it just for extra insurance. SAT 2 Chinese won’t really mean much, especially if you’re native Chinese. An 800 on that test is like the 55th percentile or something like that, so they’ll probably put more weight on your science scores, which are okay (750+ is a nice goal for Physics – the curve is pretty lenient. Pick up the Princeton Review guide for it).

On the whole though your scores are probably fine… wouldn’t hurt to boost them if you can, though.

I wouldn’t worry too much about only taking two years of Spanish as long as you explain why you don’t have three. I know people have gotten in with one or two requirements tweaked – they’re all really more like guidelines, although some are more important to fulfill (e.g. 3-4 years math and 4 years English). If everything else is otherwise solid, I doubt they’ll hold that against you.

Thanks! I know my cr score is kinda horrible so I’m retaking it in December… Not sure if it would go up tho haha…

If you dont have 800’s across the board, dont expect to get in. And your math II score is not decent enough for Wharton, need an 800 there also. And physics and chem pretty much screw you over.
You ARE royally screwed.

^^^I hope you are being sarcastic.

HarvardBound1123- such a unnecessary comment. i bet you won’t get into harvard for sure.

Yeah, i talked to a lot of regional admission officers (ivies) and the general consensus is that the Chinese subject test is meaningless. Some schools are more lenient on the foreign language department but some schools like Columbia are really strict about it.
