Will they accept weighted GPA instead of unweighted?

By the end of senior year I was hoping to have a 3.745 uw GPA. But seeing that I probably won't get an A in my concurrent class, I might end up with a 3.72. Well, the ACT scholarships at OU (Uni of OK) require a 3.75 uw GPA. Do you think they'll look at my weighted GPA, which should be 3.9ish, instead? Since my uw gpa of 3.72 ( or by a miracle, 3.745) will be so close to 3.75...
Sorry if that doesn't make sense, I'm kind of freaking out over that and the upcoming ACT right now and I can't think straight :P

You answered your own question. “… the ACT scholarships…require 3.75 uw GPA”. Since it specifies unweighted, it is your unweighted GPA that matters.

You need to talk to the school. Sometimes there is leeway with GPA cut offs. Sometimes certain courses are not included, sometimes they will adjust for the type of scale your school uses. So at time the GPA is recalculated according to what the a program or school wants to use. THere are so many scales out there that just taking a reported GPA, even defined as weighted and unweighted can mean very different things.

But then again, some programs don’t have the time for this, and have to just go with what a high school provides. My son’s high school does report a weighted and unweighted GPA on his transcript and if that’s what your high school does, and the program just takes those numbers from it, then that’s it for that. BUt if they recalculate themselves, that’s a whole other story. You should find out who knows how this is done at OU and ask.

What grades do they even consider is the first question to answer? Some schools only count 9-11 grades for stats-based scholarships. Eg, UAlabama says in FAQ that they will not consider senior year grades. OU website is difficult to navigate to get good info of that type. You have to call and ask. If they don’t look at senior grades, you’ll have to work with what you have now.

Another thing U Alabama FAQ says is that if the weighted GPA is on the transcript, they will use it. You might qualify for a good scholarship there if you miss the OU cut.

Beginning this year (for Fall 2014 Applicants), OU will consider weighted GPA for purposes of scholarships if it is printed on your transcript. If you have at least a 3.75 weighted OR unweighted GPA in combination with the required test scores published in the OU scholarships guide, you will qualify for a merit scholarship.

The website and printed materials do not appear to have been updated to reflect this change in policy, but an OU admissions rep specifically addressed this question in a recent OU recruitment presentation in the Dallas area.
